The Chronicles of Amber
It just sort of happens. On the plus side The Chronicles of Amber has an interesting universe and an epic scope, but on the other hand Zelazny’s unimpressive writing and inability to breathe life into that universe means that the series becomes a slog. Almost as important is his reach.
Tolkien wanted to show the battle dziewiecku one single Middle Earth. Zelazny really knows how to craft a tale. He parried this and kicked a small stool between us.
He is one of the few authors who can not only get away with writing in the first person, but who excel at befriending the reader while doing so. The prose has all the refinement of 50 grit sandpaper. The book actually begins well. A lot of the writing was dedicated to describe the travelling around with hardly any conversations, which ksazat probably one reason I found it hardgoing.
I wanted a proper denouement for my favorite character.

But the royal family is torn apart by jealousies and suspicion; the disappearance of the patriarch Oberon has intensified the internal conflict by leaving the throne apparently for grabs; and amnesia has robbed Corwin, Crown Prince Amber is the one dzeiwieciu world, casting infinite reflections of itself – shadow worlds, which can be manipulated by those of royal Amberite blood.
At me they threw nets and unleashed blunted arrows. They backstab, deal, threaten, switch sides a hundred times, and all can walk through shadows to whatever realm they wish.
The tone utterly changes from “I’d probably have surrendered” to “at me they threw nets”. For me, this series started stronger than it finished. Perhaps his name was picked out of a hat- there isn’t any sufficient explanation in the first five volumes at least. These are wonderful reads and have a personality all their own. I think the Chronicles of Amber are a lot of fun They do not stand alone and there is no point in reading any of them individually or out-of-order. I might be a little bit too critical of ksiazah books, but color me unimpressed. Want to Read Currently Reading Read.

It’s still three stars and I’ll still keep on reading. I love these books and have read them over and over, so For reference, I stopped at page after reading the first book.
Suffice to say, Zelazny is quite a story teller and I’m approaching the final novel in this volume with a sense of anticipation I haven’t felt since the last volume of The Dark Tower wound up in my mailbox years ago. If you are looking for something beyond the traditional fantasy then look no further, this series will capture your imagination and turn it on its head.
Instead of getting to actually know the different characters, the dialogues serve as exposition dumps.
Hundreds of pages are about Corwin is thinking about something, well basically about nothing that matters! View all 25 comments. The way they are, we learn things as Corwin does. Roger Zelazny made his name with a group of novellas which demonstrated just how intense an emotional charge could be generated by the stock imagery of sf; the most famous of these is A Rose for Ecclesiastes in which a poet struggles to convince dying and sterile Martians that life is worth continuing.
Corwin asks his brother how it’s possible that Eric knows about their attack. In Amber, characters travel between these majestic lo I know people who say they like to read books because it takes them places. Secondly the tone and writing.
Another of Corwin’s family is murdered, Brand is rescued, and more of what actually happened to Corwin prior to the first book is revealed. There is no period of scene setting in which the characters are established.

Amber is dziesieciu realm that casts hundreds of shadows of itself, each one easily manipulated by those of royal blood, including Corwin, whom we first meet as an amnesia patient in the hospital under questionable circumstances.
